Biography

Kevin Barbee is the Executive Art Director for Universal Studios Japan. He oversees a team of Japanese designers who are responsible for art directing most changes made to Osaka’s Hollywood theme park, as well as providing comprehensive quality standards services. As a key member of the original USJ design team, Kevin was responsible for the creative development and installation of shows, rides, and attractions for Universal Studios Japan.

A licensed architect with over 17 years of experience in themed entertainment design, Kevin earned a Master of Architecture with an emphasis in Urban Design in 1987. He has studied at the Architectural Association in London (in conjunction with Arizona State), traveled extensively through Europe, written and performed improvisational and stand-up comedy, and taught freehand perspective drawing and interior design.

Prior to joining Universal, Kevin worked for the Warner Brothers-owned Six Flags Theme Parks, responsible for the planning and design of "Gotham City Backlot," "Batman The Ride," "Hurricane Harbor" waterpark, and "Superman: The Escape" during his tenure. Additionally, experience with the internationally acclaimed architectural firms of RTKL Associates and the Jerde Partnership, Kevin has an extensive background in master planning, landscape design, mixed-use, retail, office, resort, and environmental graphic projects.

Kevin was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and attended Arizona State University. He began his drawing career on his parent's hallway wall at age three.
